Its objectives were to present the FP7 priority areas and opportunities for participation by Chilean Universities, explaining the role of the Liaison Office of CONICYT and the National Contact Points (NCPs) system, to identify opportunities for collaboration between the Liaison Office and the Departments of Research and International Relations of Chilean Universities and present the calendar of events for 2010.
Astrid Waltermann, the Coordinator for the European Union Programme, introduced the FP7 and in particular its cooperation and people programmes, which constitutes the main areas for collaboration for the Chilean scientific community. Beatriz Bustos, CHIEP-2 project coordinator, explained the functions of the Liaison Office, the National Contact Points System and planned activities for 2010.
At the end of those presentations, the attendees briefly introduced their research and cooperation priorities with the EU: social sciences, ICT, education, environment (climate change, water resources), energy, agricultural sciences, health, logistics and transportation and biotechnology.
The event helped to clarify several questions about procedures for participating, requirements and role of the liaison office in the process. In addition, the liaison office coordinate future dissemination events in regional centres to disseminate to the regional scientific community the existing opportunities that FP7 provides.
