At the meeting, Claudio Huepe, head of the Division “Prospectiva y Política Energética” from the Ministry of Energy and National Contact Point for energy, welcomed the audience and explained the research and policy priorities from the Ministry of Energy. He then gave the word to Juan Paulo Vega, program director of FONDEF for Energy, who explained the existing opportunities for international collaboration with the EU through FONDEF and stressed that these instruments could constitute previous steps for entering into the FP7 projects.
Following those presentations, Astrid Waltermann and Beatriz Bustos introduced the FP7 and the role of the Liaison Office. Special attention was given to the area of energy, potential areas of interest for the Chilean scientific community, deadlines and requirements for participation. After these presentations, Germán Aroca, from the Catholic University of Valparaíso, explained to the audience his experience as partner in an FP7 project, BIOTOP: he stressed the importance for successful participation of previous collaboration networks, as well as the mechanic of organizing the proposal in terms of work packages.
After the presentations a round of questions was held, and attendants ask clarifications in terms of research areas and opportunities for participation. Attendants were requested to fill an evaluation form and an expert registration form if they wanted to be informed of further activities.
