CONICYT organizes International Workshop in Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities

The main objective of the workshop is to identify areas of common interest for joint research activities between Chile and the European Union, in order to strengthen and increase the generation of research projects in the area of Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities among Chilean and European research groups.

 


 

“Knowledge, Citizenship and Development - Challenges of a Globalized Society”, is the motto of the first International Workshop in Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities Chile-UE that is being organized by the European Programme of the International Cooperation Department at the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT), to take place from January 7 to 9 2008 in Santiago.

The meeting will be inaugurated with public keynote addresses regarding “Social and Economic Impact of Globalization: New Questions and Challenges”, that will be followed by a discussion panel at Centro Cultural Palacio la Moneda on Monday, January 7th 2008 (15:30 to 18:00 o´clock). The invited speakers are Prof. Dr. Edgar Grande (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, Germany) and Dr. Carlos Huneeus (Universidad de Chile / CERC), both renowned experts (Pinchar CV de Edgar Grande). At the discussion panel, there will be also participating Mr. Jorge Navarrete (Televisión Nacional de Chile), Dr. Michael Bruter (London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom) and Prof. Dr. Johannes Stephan (Halle Institute for Economic Research, Germany).

The International Workshop held on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th of January will gather together a group of Chilean and European Researchers that work in Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities, in order to share knowledge and experiences in research areas according to mutual interest and benefit.

Participation & Citizenship, Trends in Society and their Implications, along with Civil Society, new Economy and new Inequalities will be the main focus of the Workshop. The thematic areas to be addressed in this meeting have been formulated according to the main thematic research priorities defined by the European Commission in the 2007 Work Programme for the Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities. The indicative topics for future calls were specially considered. The thematic selection also includes existing research areas in Chile and others that could be reinforced.
