National Contact Points (NCPs) are people who excel in their working fields or disciplines and are responsible for articulating and disseminating opportunities and experiences offered by EU for the scientific community. There are NCPs for each of the thematic areas defined by FP7.

FP7 Contacts in Third Countries
In FP7, participation of organisations from third countries (which are neither Member nor Associated States) is encouraged. The Commission therefore have established a database with contacts in third countries who can give assistance to potential participants in these countries and to organisations from Member and Associated States looking for partners in third countries. For the moment, the list of countries is limited. Continuous updates are foreseen.
Thematic NCP Networks
There are 18 thematic networks within the overall Network of Contact Points. These correspond to themes found in the Seventh Framework Programme and operate on a Europe-wide basis. The thematic networks aim to support regional stakeholders in enhancing science- and technology-based development. The networks also provide services, training and information to regional authorities, research institutions and enterprises.
Each thematic network is independently managed and operated, but share common goals with other networks.
